I moved all the "bad old days" news and pages over to an archive link.

Henceforth, (I hope) this Website will provide news and information regarding the Pioneer Fire Protection District, and not a litany of egregious conduct.

The people of our district have some hard decisions to make in the next two years. This Website will be a source for the FACTS about how our tax dollars are being spent and issues regarding fire protection in our rural, and highly flammable community - Ripley

MEASURE F WINS with 76.44 percent!

The PFPD's ballot Measure F, a parcel tax of $85 on developed parcels in the district, passed by a decisive margin in the Nov. 8, 2011 election. With a two-thirds majority required to pass, the voters in the district approved the measure by a better than three-to-one margin. Here are the "unofficial" results from El Dorado County Elections Dept.:

Also, I was re-appointed to a seat on the PFPD Board for a two-year term.

Jan 13, 2011:
More legal bills: The district recieved a final bill for $10,405.23 from Downey Brand. This is the amount in excess of the $25,000 covered by the district's insurance company.

Dec. 16, 2010:
Here we go again.
At the PFPD board meeting on Dec. 14, the district's part-time administrative assistant Sandra R. stood up to make a complaint to the board about the behavior of newly-elected board member Don Ramos. [more]

Nov. 30, 2010:
Former PFPD director Don Ramos, who resigned last August after being accused of harrassment by a female firefighter, has announced that he will be taking his seat on the board.

Ramos won a seat on the board in the Nov. election. Before his resignation, Ramos had been appointed to the board to fill the unexpired term of his wife, who also resigned.

Nov. 3, 2010:
Pioneer Fire Protection District election results - Final
(The top two win seats on the board):

DON RAMOS: 1,221 = 35.98%

ROBERT "ROB" JANZEN: 1,101 = 32.44%

RUSS SIME: 1,047 = 30.85%

From this point, as I understand it: at the December board meeting, Rob Janzen will resign from his appointed position to assume his elected four-year term. This will create a vacancy on the board.

The term to which I was appointed expires the first Friday in December. This creates a second vacancy on the board.

Russ Sime will stay where he is, and fulfill the remainder of the unexpired term he was appointed to.

Mr. Don Ramos has not indicated whether he will assume the office to which he was elected. It seems unlikely, since he resigned from the board a couple of months ago, but who knows?

In any event, Directors Tyler, Janzen and Sime remain on the board. I guess we'll have to see who shows up at the meetings . . . .

Oct. 21, 2010:
Walt Tyler, PFPD board chairman, has scheduled a "Special Meeting" for Monday, Oct. 25. Here is the agenda. At the meeting we will appoint a new legal committee, and decide whether to fire our current attorneys.

Oct. 15, 2010:
Well alrighty then! At the October board meeting, Russ Sime and I were appointed to fill the two open positions on the board. The vacancies were caused by the sudden and unexplained resignations of Don Ramos, Lulu Silva-Manuel and Gretchen Fretter. Last month, the EDC board of supervisors appointed Rob Janzen to the board.

After the Nov. 2 election, another seat on the board will open up because sitting Dir. Dave Boucke did not run for reelection. Anyone interested in sitting on the PFPD board should apply at the PFPD office.

Here is a link to the district's Web site.

Sept. 28, 2010:
At the Sept. 21 PFPD board meeeting, in addition to welcoming Rob Janzen as the newest board member the board took action on several items. Most important, they passed the district's 2010 - 11 budget. [more]
